Phoebe Ballard
I identify, professionally, as a teacher, dancer, maker, writer, and administrator. Within that comes my personal identifications: sister, friend, daughter, woman, smart ass, Capricorn. When I think about it, all these identifications, these many ways I can explain, can validate, myself, do not stand alone. One is meaningless without the other. Movement makes it messy. I am interested in movement that is messy. I am interested in movement being the thing that blurs, blends, mixes all these words I use to describe ‘myself’ and all these words I would use to describe ‘others,’ with the infinite potential we all possess. Moving is courageous, taking up space is indulgent, fully inhabiting your own body and being in touch with those around you is glorious. With that in mind, the rest of it doesn’t seem to matter.
